Speedie Readies!

Do you want your child to learn to read, but without hating the experience or it taking months?

Do you want your child to learn to read and spell without tears? That’s what I’m good at. Book 1:1 sessions for 30 minutes each, and then follow what I suggest between sessions. Simple! Team work makes the dream work!

This may sound odd, and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit it, but my child had no interest in learning to read. When he turned five and we were living in Spain, my mum (an amazing infants teacher) suggested sending him up to her villa every morning for lessons. Within a week he was self-teaching. He carried on reading the One, Two, Three and Away! books, and I was happy to just listen to him and chat about the stories. He started school already reading, but he didn’t end up a fan of school, even though he was very bright. He was later home educated, playing football in Spain when others were doing A Levels, and gained his qualifications along with experiences that will stay with him forever.

Seeing how quickly my son learned to read, with very little instruction (just a week) but high motivation because he enjoyed the series, and learning with my Mum, completely shifted my perspective on 1:1 support. Of course, it was only possible because he had excellent phonemic awareness, but if a child already has good PA, why spend months working through a phonics programme?

Word Mapping Mastery® is key. It is the brain’s way of organising the code that enables us to work out over a million words using only 26 letters and about 44 phonemes (speech sounds), even though we do not all speak English in the same way. We Show the Code, which is why children who don't start with good phonemic awareness still thrive. They can SEE which letters go togther, and which speech sounds they map with. It's a world first.

People are constantly bombarded with research and so-called evidence about the best way to teach children to read. But they do not know what I know, and academic researchers are always behind what action researchers discover in real classrooms. Before you trust anyone to tell you how to guide young children, find out if they can teach a four-year-old to read quickly, easily, and with joy.

I will share how I guide children to the self-teaching phase ridiculously easily, especially if they are NeuroReadies.

By NeuroReadies, I mean the one in four children who are ADHD, autistic, gifted, at risk of dyslexia, or who have SLCN. Non-speaking? No problem. Any child can reach the self-teaching phase, and master word mapping with me, and you can learn how too.
