About Miss Emma
Emma Hartnell-Baker (Miss Emma) is a Level 7 SEN Specialist with a proven record of not only helping children become confident readers and spellers but showing parents and teachers how to do it!
Her background includes:
-
Classroom teaching and management of two Ofsted-rated Outstanding nurseries
-
Appointment as an Ofsted Inspector (EYFS)
-
Work with the Queensland Department of Education in Australia to improve behaviour
While supporting schools, Miss Emma discovered that many children labelled as having “behaviour problems” were actually struggling because of the shame associated with literacy difficulties and because they were not taught to read in ways that matched how they learned.
Determined to change this, she began developing the Speech Sound Pics® (SSP) Approach, so that teachers could be empowered to meet the learning needs of their students more effectively. She is passionate about embracing linguistic and neurodiversity.
Now back in England, she trains SENDCos and qualified teachers and personally guides families through the NeuroReadies Learning Pathway, helping them deliver one-to-one tutoring that meets each child’s unique needs.
Miss Emma understands why many families choose home education and non-school alternative provision (NASP) when mainstream settings cannot meet individual needs.
Flexible Partnership Model
This NSAP service works as a parent–teacher partnership, ideal for neurodivergent learners.
-
There are no set lesson times as you will do the activities when they fit into your day!
-
Miss Emma tells you what to do first, and this tells her your child's starting point. They will have their own page, where resources are stored.
-
Parents record videos of the child completing activities (faces not required) and share them (how we do this is discussed)
-
Miss Emma reviews each video, adds feedback, and explains the next steps.
Most families find that after around two to three months their child is self-teaching, and that they feel confident guiding their child’s learning. By then most children are flying through the One, Two, Three and Away! books with growing independence.

Start Your Child’s Journey
Give your child the gift of confident reading and spelling through NSAP Online.
Families can book a free 30-minute chat, which is also a chance to decide whether this approach is right for your family before signing up for the first month. Your child can join the session! However, until your child has listened to Miss Emma’s messages and started some of the activities, they may not feel ready to chat with her online. That is completely fine. This package is designed for the parents of neurodivergent learners not being educated in school. Miss Emma understands and supports their need for a gradual, comfortable introduction, and trains parents as they are the best teachers for their children.

Language and literacy challenges are more than reading and spelling. They affect everyday family life, and support should reflect the way you believe your child learns best, whether through home education, play, technology, or other paths.
